Dr. Kabir Ahmed, a 37 years veteran researcher, especially in the fields of public health and nutrition, joined ResInt as its Technical Advisor. He is based in New York, USA.
Dr. Ahmed, a specialist in public health, has long experiences in the areas of MCH/FP, Child Survival, Nutrition, Health Management and Disease Surveillance. Recently Dr. Ahmed has retired as the Senior Technical Adviser in the Technical Division of UNFPA Headquarter in New York (2004-2017) where he was responsible in the formulation of policy and programming guidelines for implementation of RH Commodity Security (RHCS)/Supply Chain Management strategy at both global and national levels. He he was actively involved in launching by the UN Secretary General’s initiative ‘UN Commission on Life Saving Commodities for Women and Children’ in 2012 where he led/coordinated jointly with USAID two critical and major Technical Resource Teams (TRT’s) namely Supply Chain TRT and Maternal Health TRT.
Prior to UNFPA, Dr. Ahmed has worked for USAID-funded contractors, private voluntary organizations, and the Ministry of Health in Bangladesh. He also worked in World Vision Bangladesh Country Office successively in various senior level positions. As Regional Health Advisor in World Vision International (1989-1993), he has worked in Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, India, Laos, Myanmar, and Thailand. From 1993-1995, he was the Technical Specialist for the JSI Urban Immunization Project in Bangladesh. As the Deputy Program Director & Deputy Country Representative for Family Planning Management Development/MSH in Bangladesh (1995-1999), he was instrumental working with the Local Government in implementation of FP in the sub-district levels. As Reproductive Health Advisor in PLAN International (1999-2003), he has provided technical assistance to selected countries in South Asia, Southeast Asia and East Africa.
Dr. Ahmed is very effective as a team player and has the kind of personality that develops the capacity and skill of others rather than dominates the process himself. He has participated and led several program review and evaluation missions for national and international NGOs, bilateral and multilateral organizations in country, regionally and internationally.
Dr. Ahmed holds degrees from warren National University (Ph.D.), California State University (MPH), and University of Dhaka (MD).
